  3. <hi style=afpcap>A robust looking design, the Curtiss A-8 was designed to meet an Army requirement for an all-metal monoplane. The prototype XA-8 was followed by five service test YA-8s and eight Y1A-8s ordered in 1932. Subsequent development lead to the A-12 which featured an uprated powerplant. </hi>
